Serving as a member of the leadership team for the Teaching, Research, and User Services Program; oversees the library services for the Hesburgh Library and seven (7) branch locations. Primary liaison to various programs and units throughout the Libraries involved in providing customer service and library services. Direct, coordinate, and influence planning efforts around areas such as statewide resource sharing; creation of local borrowing privileges; and other emerging trends in library services.

The User Services unit encompasses many aspects of library public services for the Notre Dame community, its visitors, and research partners.

  • The circulation services assist users with the location and circulation of library materials in a multitude of formats (print, electronic, music, media, and microtext).
  • The Reserves team processes items for instructors, making course materials available to students in either physical or electronic format, in accordance with U.S. copyright law.
  • Stacks management is responsible for maintaining the orderly condition of a collection that far surpasses the 3 million volumes Father Theodore Hesburgh envisioned back in 1960.
  • Document Delivery service provides materials, that are held by the Hesburgh libraries, to current Notre Dame Faculty, staff and students to help them meet their research needs in a timely manner.
  • Finally, but not lastly, the Interlibrary Loan Lending service provides Hesburgh Library materials to help other library institutions meet their constituents research needs.

Supervisor, Reserves and Interlibrary Loan Lending

As Supervisor of the Reserves and Interlibrary Loan Lending Subunit | User Services Unit | Teaching, Research and User Services Program, Therese' is responsible for the day-to-day management of these two subunit service areas.

Reserves is responsible for processing print and document reserves for Notre Dame courses requested by Instructors. The team scans, assess readings for copyright and arrange payment to rightsholders when required. The team also processes requests for Notre Dame materials from other Institutions using the ILLiad system.

Excellent patron service is the core of our team and Therese' guides and assists staff to meet this objective. In collaboration with Tracey Morton, User Services Manager, she sets goals and direction for the team to ensure quality service.

Kara is a member of the User Services Unit | Teaching, Research, and User Services Program. Focusing on Service Excellence, the team at the Hesburgh Libraries Annex is available to help the Notre Dame community with access to library physical resources and various other services.

The Hesburgh Libraries Annex team is facilitating access for the Notre Dame community with materials located in the Annex via lending, delivery, and electronic scans. In conjunction with Reserves and ILL Lending Subunit objectives, Kara helps maintain access to all materials at the Annex and processes ILL Lending Requests. Kara accurately processes materials added to the storage system to ensure timely access for faculty, staff, and students in their teaching and research endeavors.

As supervisor of the Circulation Services Unit, Michele oversees the day to day operations and library services provided at seven Hesburgh Libraries' service desks on the Notre Dame campus.

The Circulation Services Unit is responsible for providing library circulation services and customer policy and procedural assistance for patrons of the Hesburgh Libraries. Service excellence is at the forefront of every customer interaction as this Unit serves the Notre Dame community, visiting researchers and guests at any one of seven service desks.

These include five branch libraries; Architecture, Business, Chemistry-Physics, Mathematics, Music and two Hesburgh library service desks; Circulation and Reserves, Microtext and Media.
