Helen (Hong) Hockx-Yu Portrait


Helen's post is jointly funded by the Office of Information Technologies and the Hesburgh Libraries. Her main responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate the development of a campus-wide strategic plan to guide preservation, access, and dissemination of digital assets, including both legacy and “born digital” content;
  • Work with the Library, University Archives, other university units, and faculty to implement the strategy;
  • Represent the University at national and international conferences and events, and
  • Lead efforts to pursue grant funding for digital projects.

Previously Helen was Director of Global Web Services at the Internet Archive, Head of Web Archiving at the British Library and Programme Manager at the UK Joint Information Systems Committee. She has led many national and international digital initiatives, and has published and spoken extensively about web archiving and digital preservation, addressing national and international audiences at various academic and professional conferences.

Born in China, educated in the Netherlands, Helen developed her professional skills in the United Kingdom. She is Fluent in English, Dutch and Chinese.
Helen holds a bachelor's degree in Dutch Studies from Leiden University, the Netherlands and a Master's of Science degree in Business Information Technology from Middlesex University, UK.
