Robert Kusmer is a faculty librarian and curator of the German Language and Literature collection in the Libraries. Rob is an Affiliate in the Nanovic Institute for European Studies and Interim Head of the Resource Description Unit in the Metadata Services Program of the Hesburgh Libraries.
The Resource Description Unit creates or enriches resource metadata for a wide range of resource types, schemes and encoding practices to ensure the Libraries' specialized and unique holdings are discoverable through a variety of systems. It ensures the proper application of industry metadata standards and performs subject analysis, rare books cataloging, original cataloging, metadata work for digital content, authority control work, and identity data management.
Rob holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University in German Language and Literature, as well as a master's degree in Library Science from Kent State University and B.A. cum laude in German from Cleveland State University.
