Purpose: In response to the University’s efforts to promote a spirit of diversity and inclusion through academic inquiry, and programs and opportunities that reflect our foundational belief in the dignity of all men and women, the Hesburgh Libraries is forming a Diversity Committee that will include cross-divisional representation from all library employees.

The committee will be charged with

  • creating a library-specific diversity plan
  • creating a set of best practices
  • working with internal and external consultants to create a series of programming,
  • creating, sharing, and assessing a renewed marketing effort for the Librarian-in-Residence program which will include sharing information at conferences and to potential graduates of local SLIS programs
  • creating, developing, planning and execution of an Alliance Institute with select Diversity Alliance partners
  • building opportunities for the incumbents to share their work with both the campus community and the library profession at-large
