This unit serves the Libraries' by processing physical scholarly resources added to the Libraries' collection in support of teaching, learning and research. Paula locates appropriate bibliographic records, prepares or updates local holdings records, and performs complex record editing to improve and enhance bibliographic data according to national and local cataloging standards. Paula also provides original cataloging for ETDs in science and engineering, contributes name authority records to the LC/NACO authority file, and submits literary author call number proposals to the Library of Congress.

Advisor to the Dean 284E Hesburgh Library (574) 631-5796 06/20/2018 Alicia Bates, Ed.D., joined the Hesburgh Libraries as the Advisor to the Edward H. Arnold Dean, Hesburgh Libraries and University of Notre Dame Press in September 2022. As de facto chief of staff, Dr. Bates advises and supports the Dean in all aspects of the administrative and executive operations of the Hesburgh Libraries and University of Notre Dame Press. Her responsibilities include advising the Dean about and managing relationships and activities within the Hesburgh Libraries and for myriad stakeholders; serving as a conduit between the Office of the Dean and external University stakeholders; managing special organizational- and University-level projects on the Dean’s behalf; and collaborating to lead, manage, and assess the Hesburgh Libraries’ strategic framework process. Bates has more than a decade’s worth of experience in higher education through expanding roles that have developed her expertise in several areas including strategic planning, assessment, leadership training, University partnerships, and stakeholder engagement. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National Association for Campus Activities where she helps to lead association strategy, establish educational priorities, and promote student learning and staff development.

Original Cataloging and Authorities... 402AF Hesburgh Library (574) 631-6243 09/29/1986 Rachel Boyd is responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of humanities materials in a variety of languages, including resources designated for Rare Books and Special Collections. She handles post-processing of materials from two of our outsourcing vendors. Rachel also creates and updates name authority records for the LC/NACO authority file and submits literary author call number proposals to the Library of Congress. Rachel is a member of the Metadata Initiatives Unit of the Metadata Services Program.

Manager 161B Hesburgh Library (574) 631-3993 05/26/1998 As manager of the Reserves & Interlibrary Loan Services Unit within the Teaching, Research & User Services Program, Sheila manages and coordinates course reserve requests for print and electronic resource delivery to Notre Dame students, staff and faculty in accordance with university guidelines on fair use and copyright. Processes materials for reserve in the integrated library system, orders books and videos not owned by the library, tracks orders to ensure material is available before deadlines, scans print materials, troubleshoots issues that arise with course reserves and streaming services, and updates item statuses as needed across multiple platforms. As manager of the Interlibrary Loan Services Unit, Sheila is responsible for the day-to-day management of lending requests for both print and electronic resource sharing using a variety of systems. Problem solves issues such as scan quality, citation errors, copyright limitations, licenses on e-resources, shipping, and billing. Sheila hires, coaches and trains staff in the Reserves and ILL Lending Unit and coordinates and improves workflows to provide consistent service levels for Reserves and ILL lending while also strengthening resource sharing relations. Executive Administrator 284K Hesburgh Library (574) 631-2158 01/15/2022 Michelle Budak, MBA candidate, joined the Hesburgh Libraries as the Senior Administrative Assistant to the Edward H. Arnold Dean after serving in an interim capacity for nearly three months. Ms. Budak’s primary responsibilities include managing the dean’s appointment calendar and travel arrangements, working with the Advisor to the Dean to help manage executive projects and priorities, and working with the communications director to help develop and distribute executive communications. With her appointment in February 2022, Budak became a member of the Hesburgh Libraries Executive Team, the first time that the Senior Administrative Assistant has been a member of the Libraries’ senior management team. Prior to joining the Hesburgh Libraries she worked in Notre Dame’s Office of Institutional Equity.

Manager 402AB Hesburgh Library (574) 631-6043 05/01/2015 Jared Collins manages the Collection Processing Unit in the Metadata Services Program. This unit serves the Libraries' by processing physical scholarly resources added to the Libraries' collection in support of teaching, learning and research. Additionally, Jared and his team are committed to creating and enriching metadata according to nationally approved and locally adopted standards. They participate extensively in data remediation projects and Jared serves as co-curator of the Libraries' Government Documents collection. The work of this unit directly impacts patron discovery of resources and ensures solid patron services centered on access to the Libraries' general collections. Jared holds a B.S. in Geography from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and a M.S. in Zoology from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Sr. Software Engineer 271ZF (574) 631-9462 01/21/2025 Christopher brings extensive industry experience having worked most recently at Aunalytics where he has been developing customer applications that allow service consumers to analyze their presence in the data center, measure key metrics such as uptime, error tracking and resource usage. He also single handedly developed an AI powered chatbot that customers can use to find information. Prior to his work at Aunalytics, Christopher worked in industry at the Lebermuth Company where he helped to optimize industry grade chemical production lines using software automation. Christopher's initial experience in software engineering was gained as a developer for the Lighthouse Autism Center. Christopher's zeal for learning, his attention to detail, and his ability to deliver functional and optimized software is a huge asset for us.

Sr. Software Engineer 271AG Hesburgh Library (574) 631-7696 05/01/2023 Eric is an accomplished software engineer having worked at companies such as Salesforce, Groupon, Envoy and Provi. He has experience in several technologies widely used in web application development such as Vue.js, React.js, Ruby on Rails and Python. Much of his work has focused on improving the customer experience and leveraging technology in order to advance productivity and efficiency. Those skills will contribute to assuring that the library's web based services are user centered, reliable and well designed. Eric also has extensive experience integrating back end services resulting in the optimized flow of information between applications in order to create a superior user experience. All of these skills will help to advance the library's efforts over the coming years to cater to the university's teaching, learning, and research priorities in the digital realm. Eric also has worked in the music industry and has some very interesting stories to tell related to that experience, particularly his brief professional contact with various celebrities.

Barb is responsible for acquiring a wide range of requested materials, including print monographics and electronic books. Additionally, Barb manages the receipt process for these materials.

Sr. Archivist 600 Hesburgh Library (574) 631-8669 09/01/1998 As the Senior Archivist for Audiovisual Materials, Erik Dix manages a vast array of analog audiovisual collections within the University Archives. His work spans collection care and management as well as preservation assessment and technical conservation treatments as necessary. He provides expertise in the area of digitization and reformatting of analog formats to digital audio and video codecs and file containers. Also, he supports reference and research services for a variety of administrative departments and academic offices, faculty, scholars and local, national, and international production companies.

Electronic Resources Associate 402L Hesburgh Library (574) 631-1655 11/12/2014 As a member of the Resource Acquisition & Access unit, the Electronic Resource Associate works collaboratively to support the life-cycle of electronic scholarly resources with an emphasis on one-time purchases, including electronic book packages, datasets, and digital primary resource collections. Megan provides patron support for electronic resource issues and communicates with library vendors regarding one-time acquisitions, trial management, licensing, and product performance.

With a strong focus on customer service and connecting people to knowledge, Kim serves as an embedded library staff member in the Mahaffey Business Library located in the Mendoza College of Business. Kim interprets complex information and requests to connect faculty, staff, and students of the College of Business with appropriate library resources and services in support of their teaching and research endeavors. Communications and Digital Engagement... 284H Hesburgh Library (574) 631-5071 01/08/2024 Bryan Fields joined the Hesburgh Libraries communications team as communications and digital engagement specialist in January 2024. In this role, he promotes library services and engages diverse audiences by finding the spark in each story to increase impact and drive traffic. Bryan communicates key initiatives, signature events, and valuable resources to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the larger community through multiple channels, including social media, digital signage, and other digital media. Bryan works with the larger communications team to elevate the libraries’ brand and advance its mission and vision. Before joining Notre Dame, Bryan worked in healthcare marketing at Beacon and Saint Joseph Health Systems, where he created and published content across all channels for external and internal audiences. Prior to that, he served as senior copywriter and creative concept developer for two advertising agencies, helping national organizations reach diverse customers in a wide variety of industries. Bryan earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Michigan State University.

In this role, he is responsible for providing leadership and consultative services regarding how the library can take advantage of web based technologies, while managing a highly skilled team of software developers and specialists in the areas of design, user experience, analysis and change management. As a member of the CER Unit, Maggie contributes to the daily print serials operations including check-in, claiming, and title changes. As a member of a cross-functional team, Maggie assists the Resource Acquisitions and Access Unit with monograph and DVD ordering and monograph approval plan management.

Her primary focus is producing digital surrogates from a variety of still image, text, and other formats according to established standards to meet Hesburgh Libraries' goals for digitizing internal resources. She consults on digital projects especially involving logistical concerns related to digital files (masters, primary, access), and accompanying structural and technical metadata. She is the primary user of the Libraries’ Kirtas APT book scanner and would be happy to give you a demonstration. Amanda has a Master's in Library Science and a Bachelor's in Sociology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Sr. Systems Administrator 271M Hesburgh Library (574) 631-4686 08/23/1994 As a Sr Systems Administrator, Tom provides core systems infrastructure management and some server based programming support for the Hesburgh Libraries. Tom administers a wide variety of commercially licensed and open source technologies and software and is responsible for the configuration, management, function, availability, and security for those systems. ###Systems Administration and Support - Advanced Linux systems administration including virtualization, user administration, backup and recovery, security, package maintenance, networking, file systems, and high availability server configurations. - Compilation, installation, and configuration of commercial and open source software. - Maintain files systems, back ups, firewalls, monitoring systems, and locally developed application environments. - Administration of high volume relational database systems such as MySQL and Oracle. Digital Projects Specialist 250B Hesburgh Library (574) 631-3371 07/28/2008 As Digital Projects Specialist (DPS), Adam contributes significantly to the development, creation, supervision, planning, and ongoing management of digital collections within the Hesburgh Libraries. The Digital Projects Specialist reports to the Supervisor for the Navari Family Center for Digital Scholarship. Adam provides oversight for the development of three-dimensional services, including 3D printers, software modeling and evaluation of applications that emerge in support of the 3D field as the technologies apply to strategic initiatives within the Libraries. Adam also provides instructional outreach service/course integration as well as workshops and instruction on 3D modeling and other visual software applications, including VR. The Digital Projects Specialist collaborates with digital project stakeholders and software developers and teams within the Hesburgh Libraries to ensure access to the collections. The DPS is responsible for creation and documentation of metadata and digitization standards related to collections and exhibits developed in consultation with metadata and technical experts. Internal staff training to support creation, description and management of the digital surrogates is expected.

Academic Advancement Assistant Director 284G Hesburgh Library (574) 631-8689 05/28/2024 Amber Herkey is a seasoned project manager with a proven track record of aiding vulnerable populations through service delivery, advocacy, and program management. She excels in strategic communication, storytelling, systems analysis, and research—a dedicated operations specialist devoted to promoting inclusion and cultural sensitivity. Joining Notre Dame in 2021 as a leader in the Center for Social Concerns Justice Education program, Amber served as both an instructor and program administrator on topics ranging from educational equity and community health to sustainability and climate action. Before her time at Notre Dame, she worked with L'Arche International as a creative producer in Italy, Ukraine, Poland, Japan, India, Australia, Kenya, Argentina, Honduras, Canada, Côte d'Ivoire, and Northern Ireland. Amber earned a degree in anthropology from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Arts degree in Global Studies from the University of California, Berkeley.

Her includes collection care and management as well as digitization and metadata creation for a wide range of photographic material. Also, she supports reference, outreach, and research services for a variety of administrative departments and academic offices, faculty members, and local, national, and international audiences.

Sr. Preservation Services Specialist 402V Hesburgh Library (574) 631-6360 07/11/1989 Debbie coordinates digital preservation reformatting of brittle books, commercial library binding, spine labeling, and mass deacidification services. Debbie works directly with specialized preservation vendors, and coordinates broadly with staff throughout the Libraries in order to accomplish her work. Debbie holds a BS in Education from Indiana University.

Records Management 607G Hesburgh Library (574) 631-4028 08/12/2013 As Archivist for Records Management, Sarah engages in complex records management consultation services to support a wide range of campus stakeholders, faculty, and students. She meets with University departments to assess current record handling procedures, identifies and preserves archival records, and provides guidance on records management and records related issues such as filing, retention and security. She also works collaboratively to create and provide updates to the record retention and disposition schedules as well as builds consultation services for the records management program and manages the paper-based shred program. In collaboration with the records management team, she develops outreach initiatives and activities in the form of orientation sessions, presentations, and tutorials.

Archives Specialist 607 Hesburgh Library (574) 631-6506 09/29/2022 As Archives Specialist, Jason is responsible for the appraisal, transfer, arrangement, description, and management of archival collections in the University Archives. He also supports digital preservation and records management functions and works with campus partners and other stakeholders to broaden the understanding of the University Archives. Jason is a Certified Archivist and holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

As a graphic designer, Andy is responsible for creating professional design elements, color schemes, and branding components for a wide variety of sites that the library promotes for use in the academy. Andy is proficient in producing designs for a variety of purposes that include instruction, exhibition, discovery, and generalized web content. This unit serves the Libraries' by processing physical scholarly resources added to the Libraries' collection in support of teaching, learning and research. Alicia locates appropriate bibliographic records, prepares or updates local holdings records, and performs complex record editing to improve and enhance bibliographic data according to national and local cataloging standards.
